Kevin Siggy Seals Griiip G1 Virtual Series 2019 Victory

A reduced grid of just 14 cars took the start of the first race during the fifth round of the Griiip G1 Championship at Varano, and it was a familiar face, Kevin Siggy-Rebernak, that took the chequered flag, winning the championship and setting the fastest race lap in the process.

The dominant driver set a time in qualifying that simply could not be matched by his closest rival, Daniele Pasquali, and he would race to the finish relatively untroubled.

Danilo Smeriglio and Ross Macfarlane had a coming-together as the cars made their way through the first corner, dropping them both down the order, allowing Avi Markovich and Daniel Stremair to capitalise and take third and fourth positions respectively.

The two Vellas in the field, Dean and Bernard, also engaged in an epic battle over sixth position, with the former eventually coming out on top after the two drivers overtook each other on numerous occasions.

Other than a few scraps that took place over the lower points-paying positions, the first race of the fifth round was relatively quiet.

Despite winning the championship in the first race, there was no letting up for Siggy-Rebernak, who proceeded to put himself on pole position for the second, beating Daniele Pasquali’s time by a scarcely-believable one-thousandth of a second.

Bernard Vella and Macfarlane collided when Macfarlane tried to pass for third place. He would lose and drop down the field, before having yet another skirmish when trying to climb back from the lower positions.

Just after the half-way mark, Danilo Smeriglio scythed his way past Bernard Vella to take third place, as William Zerbini and Avi Markovich continued to run quietly behind them.

Siggy-Rebernak was a full 3.5 seconds clear of second-placed Pasquali, giving him a 90% win ratio in this year’s Griiip G1 Championship, and earning himself a very well-deserved test in an actual Griiip G1 car, which is due to take place sometime later in the year.

The next round of the championship will take place at a yet-to-be-announced venue. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement, which is to be made next week!
